The Model

The Ferrari F40 Cat.

By the mid-1980s, Ferrari faced a challenge it had never encountered before. Porsche had built the 959, and the world's press declared it the most advanced car ever made. Enzo Ferrari, then in his late eighties, wanted an answer. What he asked for was not a technological showcase but something far simpler and far more brutal: the fastest, purest road car Maranello could build. Furthermore, the engineers delivered exactly that. Composite bodywork, a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V8 producing 478 hp, and a complete absence of driver aids. Moreover, the F40 became the first production car to break 200 mph. Enzo died the following year, making this the last Ferrari he personally signed off. Nothing since has carried quite the same weight.

This Example

About this example

This example is finished in Rosso Corsa and presented in catalytic specification. Furthermore, it has covered 50,000 km from new. That figure matters, because it tells you this car has lived the life Enzo intended for it — used, driven and enjoyed rather than preserved under a cover. Ferrari Classiche certification confirms that everything remains as Maranello built it. As a result, this is an F40 that offers both documented originality and a genuine history on the road.

In Detail

Step inside and the F40 makes its priorities clear immediately. Bare composite panels, pull cords instead of door handles, and nothing resembling comfort. Furthermore, the turbochargers deliver their power in a single violent surge that no modern engine attempts to replicate. Moreover, the exposed V8 beneath the rear clamshell remains one of the great sights in automotive engineering. This is a car that demands attention from its driver at every moment, and rewards it completely.
